Blazers’ Out Of Bounds Set For An Open Dunk
Now, I realize that Marcus Camby missed the dunk here, but this was a great play that needs to be shown. With the Suns needing to get a foul or a steal, the Blazers were able to use the Suns’ pressure against them for the lay-in:

After Steve Nash makes his lay-up to pull the game within 4 points, everyone on the Suns need to scramble to pick up their man before the Blazers can get the ball inbounds. Meanwhile, the Blazers are starting to send players to the basketball to set up their play.

Everyone picked up their man, except for Jason Richardson, who allows Marcus Camby to walk go down the sideline. I don’t think Richardson “lost” Camby, I just think he thought that there was no way that Camby would get the basketball, so why not try to deny a pass.

The final aspect of the play comes when LaMarcus Aldridge flashes to the open area. His defender (Dudley) follows, and Richardson denies him as well. This leaves the the rest of the court open for Camby to receive the pass.

By the time Dudely figures out what is happening, it is too late, and Camby has a big head start towards the basket.

Camby makes the catch. Now he misses the dunk, but I really like what the Blazers did here. Instead of just getting the ball in and letting the Suns foul (or defend), they went for the dagger. They sent 3 guys at the basketball, while the defenders try to deny them and send another guy deep.
