Rajon Rondo’s Rebounding

Rajon Rondo has been one of the best rebounding PGs (4th in total rebounding rate/3rd in offensive rebounding rate) for some time now, and he really put that rebounding skill on display yesterday in the Celtics win against the Cavs.  Rondo put up a triple double with 29 points and 13 assists, but maybe the most impressive stat was his rebounds (he had 18 total).

Defensive Rebounds

Rondo doesn’t use his size to get rebounds like the more known rebounding point guards like Jason Kidd (and now Tyreke Evans).  The reason Rondo is able to get so many defensive rebounds is because of his speed.  What I mean by that is Rondo doesn’t have to leak out if he wants to start a fast break:

Now most point guards would be at the red circle, just behind the three point line looking for an outlet pass to start the fast break.  Rajon Rondo is quick enough that if he gets the ball at the free throw line extended instead of the three point line, he can still start a fast break.
