Paul Millsap’s Offensive Rebound
Against the Heat, the Utah Jazz were down by two points with 3.4 seconds left in the game. Even though they were able to get themselves a clean look at the rim, Paul Millsap didn’t give up on the play, and that combined with a nice bounce, is what allowed him to get the offensive rebound and put it back before the buzzer sounded.
Even though it was a great effort for Millsap, Udonis Haslem’s lack of a box-out is at least partially responsible for the game going into overtime:

As C.J. Miles flashes to the corner, Paul Millsap actually pops out towards the three point line. Despite coming off open, the ball gets passed to Miles in the corner.

As Miles pulls up, Millsap has a lane to the rim and starts to break for an offensive rebound (instead of giving up on the play). Haslem is a little out of position, but if he gets a good box-out he should be fine.

Haslem actually does a good job of recovering and getting his shoulders ahead of Millsap. However, instead of trying to box out, Haslem runs himself underneath the rim.

As the shot hits the rim, you can see that the only way Udonis Haslem can get the basketball is if it goes through the net.

Millsap gets a little lucky as the basketball bounces right into his hands. Great hustle from Millsap and a lack of a box from Haslem contributes to this offensive rebound. Here is the play in real time. Notice how Haslem runs straight to the rim and as the ball comes off of the rim, it is just out of his reach.
